How is a music video born?

Using the example of the clip for Medial Banana – “Life goes on”, we will present the individual steps that lead to the final video.

Medial Banana – Life goes on

Once the song is selected, the length of the clip is the first thing that is determined. This is because the plus-minus refers to the length of the song. This is an important parameter especially when cutting spun material. There are two extremes to avoid. The first is the large number of images, which is tedious and difficult to dig through and arrange into a prepared script. The counterpart is missing material, for example, if a particular scene is forgotten to be shot. That’s when the complex improvisation begins in post-production.

To avoid both problems, we prefer detailed preparation.

Process

1. Consultation

Oral and written definition of the project, what are the expectations and also the possibilities of implementation.

2. Budget agreement

It depends on flexibility or a fixed amount.

3. Creative division of individual parts of the video

Introduction, core, plot, denouement and conclusion. “Cleaning up” the first ideas.

4. Screenplay & Script

The detailed scenario is sent for final approval.

5. Storyboard

Capturing graphic elements and breaking down individual scenes with illustrative visualization.

6. Filming

Time on set. It can also be divided into several days. It depends on the weather, location, etc.

7. Postproduction

The video editing is done first, after saving the frames in a suitable order and time, the animations, subtitles are inserted. Of course at this stage the audio track is already added to fit the voice synchronisation. Additional sound effects are added and then the video is exported to the required format. We also create graphic formats for Instagram story or Facebook.
