How to properly voice a video game

It is important to understand what the main themes are in the game and how they are meant to evoke the atmosphere during the gameplay of certain levels. This also applies to sounds of movement and interaction with objects. As a game designer, you are in the most important position because you have control over the process, but not over the player anymore.

Asset design

When designing individual assets it is important that for proper use you fine tune their function by a subtle deviation or change in the sound you are producing. Weapons usually have different functions and these deserve realistic sound design. You don’t want their use in the game to be any different. If there is a graphical difference, there is also a sound difference, so this process is just as important as the design of the game itself, and together they form a unified whole.

For sounds that repeat in a loop, try to keep the music constant and undisturbed by clicks or twitches in the track. To join two pieces of music together, we use the crossfade effect. This stage of sound development is implemented when animations and cinematics are completed.

Import to FMOD studio

This piece of software allows you to process the necessary tracks to soundtrack your game. You can set where and when to turn the sound off or on. The developers then work with this information and the game goes for testing to see if everything fits as it should.
